As I do every year, I flew to Cologne, Germany to attend the world’s largest fitness trade show – FIBO. But this year felt different. More evolved. The global fitness industry is undergoing a real transformation, and FIBO 2025 made it crystal clear where the future is headed: personalized, tech-driven, and smarter than ever.
From AI-powered machines to longevity-focused wellness zones, here’s what caught my attention this year – and why fitness businesses should be paying attention.
Data Over Dumbbells: The Rise of Precision Fitness
Forget the old “one-size-fits-all” workouts. The biggest shift happening? Hyper-personalization at scale. We’re seeing a major pivot from general training to data-driven, AI-led experiences that optimize results and reduce risk – all without a trainer touching a thing.
It starts with intelligent machines capable of scanning your body, identifying imbalances, and auto-adjusting resistance in real time. Companies like EGYM, Technogym BIOSTRENGTH, and Milon Q are leading the charge, turning traditional strength machines into fully connected, smart stations powered by biometric data and AI analytics.
We’re also seeing a surge in biological age diagnostics – platforms like Technogym Checkup, milon YOU, and EGYM BioAge analyze everything from strength and flexibility to metabolism and VO2 max, giving users a full health snapshot and adapting workouts accordingly.
Avishai Friz, head of retail at Movement Group, highlighted Milon’s new Milon YOU Kiosk, which uses biometric scans and 3D avatar feedback to identify pain points and recommend movement corrections in real time.
Strength Training for Women Goes Mainstream
One of the clearest trends this year was the rapid rise in strength training among women – a movement that’s now reflected in the equipment on display. Booty Builder introduced an all-new line of glute-focused machines, while industry giants like Milon, EGYM, Technogym, and GYM80 showcased equipment specifically designed for glutes, hamstrings, and hips. These machines weren’t just niche add-ons – they were front and center.
PANATA stood out with its signature Italian design and meticulously engineered machines — combining elegance with performance. Bodybuilding legend Phil Heath, serving as their brand ambassador, brought serious star power to their booth.
This is no passing trend. Demand is surging, and equipment manufacturers are responding by developing smarter, biomechanically optimized machines tailored to female users looking to build strength, confidence, and performance.
FIBO’s Digital & Innovation Zone Was the Main Stage
The Confex Hall stole the show. I did at least four walkthroughs just to absorb it all. Companies like Sport Alliance, Virtuagym, ABC Fitness, and Enhance Fitness LLC showcased bleeding-edge solutions – from wearables and smart sensors to AI-integrated platforms for clubs and trainers.
At the center stood the Future Forum – hosting expert panels and keynote talks covering everything from fitness AI to digital health ecosystems.
Smart Gyms Without Trainers: Ready or Not?
Is this the future of gyms? In California, Fred Fitness is already operating with no trainers on the floor. Members scan in, complete a full biometric assessment, and the system personalizes every element of their training journey – from machine settings to progression tracking – all powered by EGYM and MATRIX.
Even locker access and workout station transitions are handled via smart wristbands and mobile phones. Everything I saw at Technogym and MILON booths confirmed this: the infrastructure for fully automated gyms is here, and it’s scalable.
Less overhead. More efficiency. But are we ready?
Mirrors That Train You – Literally
Following Tonal’s success, IMBODY launched a smart fitness mirror packed with motorized arms (up to 100kg resistance), AI coaching, and real-time motion tracking.
This isn’t just a trend – it’s the new wave. Compact, high-tech, and built for safety through real-time feedback. Expect to see a boom in AI-powered home and micro-gym equipment that adapts in real time.
Wellness & Recovery Are No Longer “Extras”
Wellness and biohacking officially broke into the mainstream this year. From infrared beds and breathwork pods to cryotherapy lounges, pressure boots, and massage guns – the recovery zone was more packed than some of the weight areas.
Expect to see more fitness centers integrating these modalities, not as add-ons but as core offerings. The convergence of fitness, recovery, and longevity is accelerating – fast.
